The Wire, Season 4
Holy fucking shit is this show good.
I'm not even sure I can describe it in terms that do it justice, and if I tried to, I'd end up writing a book, so I'll just leave it at this: "The Wire" this season has managed to be pitch-perfect in almost every scene, whether it be about street-level thugs and junkies, drug kingpins, cops, or mayors of major cities.
Every character is sympathetic, and every character arc is beautifully mapped out. The four kids who were this season's protagonists each break your heart in a different way by the end.
This has been said about every show on HBO, and while "Deadwood" and to a lesser extent "The Sopranos" are amazingly well-crafted television shows, "The Wire" transcends television. It is more accurately a fictionalized, yet historical document of our times.
It's not just the best thing on television. It's one of the best pieces of art being produced anywhere. A+.
