Search engines and links
Like just about everyone else in the world who has a blog, I've been using the ever-helpful Statcounter to keep up with the traffic that comes to my site. There are quite a few incredibly entertaining things about the way it tracks hits, like showing me what browsers people are using or what even what operating systems most people who come here have, but more than anything, the best feature by far is the referring link feature, which shows where people are coming from. One particularly great aspect is that you can actually see the keywords that people use to search for your site in search engines. Here's an example of some of the keywords people have used over the past few days to get here in Google, MSN and Yahoo:
snappy phrases
mike mccary of boyz ii men
bullet onomatopoeia
comic book onomatopoeias pictures
super size mw the movie
words that are onomatopoeias
wanya morris and his wife
What amazes me about this more than anything else is that the wide majority of searches just pick out random words out of the things I wrote as if that's what the site is about. Seriously, am I the only person in the entirety of the internet who used the actual names of the members of Boyz II Men? I'm afraid the folks who performed those searches were probably a little disappointed to find that my mentioning of the group didn't really have much to do with them other than the fact that vegetarians don't eat them, and that maybe they ought to.
Also, as a side-note, I'd like to point out to any movie executives who may be reading this that Super-Size MW: The Movie needs to be made now. Clearly, the public wants it. We need to strike while the iron is hot. Imagine it, an epic about a giant MW terrorizing the globe with his incessant cackling and nitpicking about specific word meanings. It would make a million dollars!
If you haven't already noticed it, the links section in the sidebar deserves your attention. I've recently added another mighty link to its numbers -- the infinitely hilarious Spamusement, a webcomic that takes spam subject lines and turns them into hilarious one-panel jokes. It's great.
Speaking of linked comic-related things, I just wanted to point this out to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Is this the new comedy? Just dragging up actual Golden Age comics and making fun of unfortunate mid-Twentieth Century slang? There's at least one other example I can think of that would point to this being the case. If that indeed is true, I hope there's something out there as genuinely hilarious as the Joker saying "I'll show them how many boners the Joker can make!"
One more thing before I finish up here -- the helpful Statcounter is telling me that, so far today, I've gotten a grand total of three hits. Three! That's terribly, incontrovertibly sad. So, I'm looking for suggestions as to ways I can increase traffic here, the only condition being that it's got to be free. I'm not made of money, you know. Anyway, if you're actually reading this and have an idea of how I can get some more readers, leave me a comment.
