Capsule reviews for issues I bought on 4/21/05 (Comics)
Before I get started here, let me just give you a quick rundown of my comics rating system.
Yeah! - A great comic all around. Definitely worth buying.
Heh. - Pretty entertaining. Give it a read if you have a chance.
Eh? - Confusing. I'm not really sure if it's bad or good, honestly, but it made me scratch my head a lot.
Meh. - I could take it or leave it, really. Not terribly exciting.
Bleh. - Terrible.

THE PUNISHER #19

The premise of this issue is pretty good. The basic idea is that a mobster who's looking to make a name for himself in the Mafia has decided to lure out and kill the Punisher by digging up the remains of his murdered family and...well...doing something not nice to them. The odd thing, though, is that there's a side-story here that, at least so far, doesn't really connect to anything. It's not bad -- it's about a female prisoner who gets set up by some other inmates who hate (or envy) her -- but I just don't get why it's there. Rating: Heh.
RUNAWAYS #3

It looks like Brian Vaughan's slow-playin' us on this one. We're finding out some more about Victor Mancha (apparently an incredibly dangerous villain in the future), but only in small pieces. It looks, though, that we'll get to find out the identity of his infamous father next issue. Anyway, the art's still great, the dialogue is hilarious, you oughta be reading this. Rating: Yeah!
100 BULLETS #60

100 BULLETS #60

I wonder why I keep reading the individual issues of this comic. It's obviously meant to be read in trade paperbacks or even just altogether. Not to say that I didn't like this issue, it was a good read, but I'm just not completely sure what's going on. It just seems that a bunch of people are gathering at a hotel and a bellboy buys some drugs. I know there's lots of other stuff going on, but, man, the anticipation is getting to me. Rating: Eh?
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #76

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #76

I gotta admit, I haven't been as in love with this Hobgoblin story arc as I have with others. This issue reads a lot like the "autopilot Bendis" that, when it's really bad, just seems very phoned in. I like Bendis a lot, and I know you have to have these action-y issues to keep the series going as, you know, a superhero comic, but, man, this comic really is much better when there's more emotional depth. Rating: Meh.
ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #17

ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #17

What I learned this issue: Ultimate Ben Grimm can breathe gaseous acid. That's about it. Ultimate Annihilus is pretty creepy, I guess. This story's not really doing that much for me, honestly. Rating: Meh.
SEVEN SOLDIERS: KLARION #1

SEVEN SOLDIERS: KLARION #1

This was probably the least of the Seven Soldiers books so far, but it was still pretty interesting. Art-wise, it's really quite eye-catching, but it's as convoluted as Grant Morrison stuff gets. Rating: Eh?
THE WALKING DEAD #17

THE WALKING DEAD #17

Rick beats the crap out of a guy. Otherwise, there's a lot of kind of headache-inducing bickering. I'm sure the big turn is going to lead to something. I can't wait for that to happen, as this is the first issue of the comic that makes me say Rating: Heh.
SUPERMAN #215

SUPERMAN #215

This is the ending of the 12-part "For Tomorrow" story arc. I was confused at first, but I thought everything would clear up by the end. It didn't. Look, I love Azzarello probably more than anybody, but, seriously, what the hell was that? Rating: Eh?
